About the authors
Jane Yolen’s 400th! book came out March 2, 2021, and yes it was fantasy—a picture book called BEAR OUTSIDE. Her work has won 2 Nebulas, 3 World Fantasy Awards, 1 Caldecott, numerous State awards (including several for Massachusetts, 1 for N York State, 1 for California, 1 for New Jersey) 3 Mythopoeic Awards. 6 honorary doctorates. She was the first woman ever to give the Andrew Lang lecture at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, though the series had been running since 1927. She won the New England Public Radio’s Arts and Entertainment award and was the first writer to do so. She has been called “America’s Hans Christian Andersen.” One of her awards set her good Scottish wool coat on fire. Just a warning!
Philippe Béha has illustrated more than 200 children's books. He is a three-time recipient of the Governor General’s Literary Award and a winner of the Mr. Christie's Book Award. He has also been a finalist for the IBBY Hans Christian Andersen Lifetime Achievement Award. He lives in Quebec.
Heidi Stemple has published more than thirty-five books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children. She lives and writes on a big old farm in Massachusetts.

Fairy Tale Feasts
This is a unique collection of folktales retold by the distinguished author, Jane Yolen. The tales are accompanied by child-friendly recipes from her grown daughter, Heidi Stemple. They note that there are powerful ties between stories and food and so the tale of SnowWhiteis followed by a recipe for Snow White’s Baked Apples and Brer Rabbit by a Carrot Soup recipe. Librarians and teachers will find marginalia facts and anecdotes to be especially informative. The Aarne-Thompson Index, dating back to 1910, is explained as a useful system for grouping types of tales. Additional information on the history of the tales and foods is designed to inspire future storytellers and cooks. Jane Yolen is the multi-award-winning author of over 200 books. Phillipe Beha is an international illustrator of over 100 children’s books.Source: The Association of Book Publishers of BC. BC Books for BC Schools. 2006-2007.
