Description
Ruby can't understand why her cat, Mattoo, never wants to play. Ruby is good-natured but is perhaps too boisterous. Will Mattoo ever want to play with Ruby? Will Ruby ever win Mattoo's affection? With striking acrylic illustrations, Mattoo, Let's Play! is a visually rich story that shows how playing carefully and gently with a pet can make all the difference.

Editorial Reviews
A nondidactic approach to playing nicely with animals.
Publishers Weekly
The use of acrylic ink and collage makes for stunning illustrations, combining remarkable pen-and-ink backgrounds with colorful renderings of the children, and the depiction of Mattoo is charming. This is a great read-aloud, but independent readers will enjoy the detail in the art.

Mattoo, Let’s Play!
Is Mattoo really shy or is Ruby just a little too boisterous? As Ruby and her friend Clemente embark on a safari in the wilds of Ruby’s bedroom, Ruby learns that perhaps she just needs to approach animals and Mattoo in a calmer and gentler manner. This is Irene Luxbacher’s author-illustrator debut picture book.Source: The Canadian Children’s Book Centre. Best Books for Kids & Teens. 2011.
