Description
From the Foreword:
". . . revel in the phenomenal diversity of Canadian voices, stances, sensations and thoughts, as expressed through that most eclectic, unpredictable, and perennially electifying of all live arts (even when it’s just read), the theatre. . . ."
– John Murrell, Playwright, Head of Theatre, Canada Council
Building on the success of the first Canadian audition book, "And what are you going to do for us?" this new audition book presents monologues from Canadian plays of the 80s.
Margaret Bard, Peter Messaline and Miriam Newhouse, well-known in Canadian, American and British theatre for their acting, directing and writing, have selected forty individual speeches, and suggest how to approach each piece for audition. Information on the first production, availability of the playscript, and a brief biography of the playwright accompany each excerpt.
"And do you have anything else?" The reply is an empathic "Yes!" with forty monologues from Canadian playwrights: Paul Ledoux, Norm Foster, Tomson Highway, Albro Hawkins, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Sally Clark, Allan Stratton, Betty Lambert, Michel Tremblay, Leah Cherniak, Robert Morgan and Martha Ross, Daniel MacIvor, Kenneth Dyba, Sharon Pollock, Maureen Hunter, Pamela Boyd, Don Hannah, Erika Ritter, Arvo McMillan, Mark Brownell, Judith Thompson, Kelly Rebar, Winston Kam, Linda Griffiths, George F. Walker, Raymond Storey, Jan Kudelka, Michel Garneau, John Mighton, Frank Moher, René Gingras, Sky Gilbert, John Selkirk, Anne Chislett, John Murrell, John Gray, Kenneth Brown, George Boyd, John and Joa Lazarus, René-Daniel Dubois, and Clem Martini.
