Description
Canada at the WTO provides readers with an accessible evaluation of the World Trade Organization's influence on domestic Canadian policy. It offers a foundational understanding of the WTO, including the myths that surround it, and introduces readers to Canada's objectives in being a part of the WTO's dispute settlement process. It also examines the realities of these goals through five dispute settlement case studies: softwood lumber, the Canadian Wheat Board, Bombardier Regional Jets, split-run magazines, and Canadian patents in relation to the production of generic pharmaceuticals and intellectual property rights.
The author takes a multidisciplinary approach, conveying the interrelationship between global politics, economics, and international law, and offers a balanced analysis that is both critical and optimistic. What results is a clear picture of how resolutions made at the international level affect Canadian politics, industries, and employment, and conversely how international governance can be used to protect national policies.
