Description

"Exhibition time has always had a special meaning for people in souther Ontario, and every year millions of visitors go to the Canadian National Exhibition to enjoy the midway, the grandstand show, the sports contests, the music festivals, the agricultural displays, the fireworks, and all the other events which tradition has made part of a day at the CNE.

With 120 photographs culled from many different sources, this book recaptures the Ex of days gone by. The parade of champions in front of the grandstand, the marathon swimmers, the grandstand shows with casts of thousands, the old-time midway rides -- the events and the atmosphere of the Ex live again through these old photos.

In his text James Lorimer tells the story of how the Ex has grown and changed, and warns that the great days of the CNE may be numbered if present plans to demolish most of the Exhibition buildings and to redevelop the site are carried out.
