Description

A new book from Bony Blithe award–winning mystery author Cathy Ace where her sleuth Cait Morgan investigates a chilling cold case from a university in Budapest.

A gig as guest lecturer at the university in Budapest should have been a dream job for a travelling criminologist and food lover. But wherever Cait Morgan goes, murder seems to follow. One of Cait’s new students pleads with her to solve the mystery of her grandmother’s brutal slaying. She agrees, but when she is repeatedly hassled by a weird colleague, and as bizarre details about the student’s family members come to light, Cait is beset by uncertainty.

As she gets closer to the truth, Cait's investigation puts the powers-that-be on high alert, and her instincts tell her she's in grave danger. Bud races to Budapest to come to Cait's aid, but will it be too late?

Editorial Reviews

Have you been missing those delightful mystery-travelogue works from Lyn Hamilton? Say hello to Cathy Ace and her intrepid sleuth, Cait Morgan, a Welsh-Canadian professor with a predilection for investigating crime. This is the eighth book in this series and I have somehow missed the other seven. Based on this one, the series is a winner. Cait is in Budapest, not enjoying herself. Her husband is back in Canada, her colleagues in Hungary are a dozy lot, and now a student wants her to find out who murdered her grandmother. Trouble is, granny died 40 years ago. This is a very old, very cold case. Nevertheless, Cait agrees to investigate – boredom can do that to you. This is a terrific light mystery with a wonderful setting and Ace is, well, an ace when it comes to plot and description.

The Globe and Mail

"Cait Morgan is traveling again – this time to Budapest – where an older unsolved crime is stirring up new trouble. Cathy Ace’s series is perfect for those that love travel, food, and/or murder (reading it, not committing it)."

BOLO Books blog

"Another very satisfying story from Cathy Ace . . . The scene is set, the puzzle posed and Cait uses her wit and ingenuity to survive threats and danger to arrive at a satisfactory solution. A very strong addition to this very appealing series."

Escape with Dollycas blog

"Cait is someone you’d like to have as a friend . . . The mystery is a complex one. The setting of Budapest adds flavor . . . Just keep in mind, not everyone tells the truth, not everyone is who they say they are, and people should be careful what they wish for—the reality of getting the wish granted can have long-lasting consequences."

King's River Life Magazine

"Suspenseful . . . I would recommend [The Corpse with the Ruby Lips] to anyone who loves a good mystery."
