Providing a concise overview of the political theories and theorists that have shaped the modern world, Political Ideologies dissects the major political ideologies of our age, uncovering the rich layers of both their historical roots and their contemporary expressions. Real events are incorporated to demonstrate political ideologies in action, while chapters on secularism, feminism, and religious fundamentalism acquaint students with the workings of these and other topical world views.

Editorial Reviews

"In general, the information presented is accessible and straightforward, with a good combination of historical and theoretical discussion. I like the inclusion of nontraditional political thinkers, the use of various authors and intellectuals, such as Tolstoy and Huxley, along with the treatment of standard political thinkers such as Rawls and Kymlicka." --Joanne Wright, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton

"This book is great for an introduction to the subject. It does a nice job of providing basic background and information on a wide variety of significant ideologies, making them comprehensible, making them seem plausible and potentially attractive, and providing students with the means to compare and assess them." --Graham Dodds, Concordia University

"What sets this book apart is its consideration of political ideologies that are influential in understanding contemporary politics and the way it summarizes the beliefs of these political ideologies through information boxes, timelines, and diagrams . . . I particularly enjoyed the fact that the author used a lot of contemporary political thinkers to illustrate the lasting legacy of political ideas until today." --Hepzibah Munoz Martinez, University of New Brunswick, St. John
