About the authors

KEN SETTERINGTON is the author of Mom and Mum are Getting Married and Branded by the Pink Triangle, winner of the Canadian Jewish Book Award for Holocaust Literature and a Stonewall Honor from the American Library Association. He is the former Children and Youth Advocate for the Toronto Public Library and received the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada in 2017 for his work bringing children and literature together. He lives with his partner in Toronto.

Alice Priestley has illustrated numerous books including five other children’s stories. Out on the Ice in the Middle of the Bay was shortlisted for a Mr. Christie Book Award and the Amelia Frances Gibbon Award. Her other books include Winning the Girl of the Sea, The Watcher, Clouds on the Mountain and Someone’s Reading This Book. She lives in Toronto with her husband and children.

When teaching about diverse families, this picture book is an important story about single sex relationships. This book supports Health curriculum and helps students to gain understanding of Healthy Relationships, as well as to be respectful of differences.
