Description
In Mario Doucette's seemingly naïve artworks there is a worldly social critique at play.Appearing at first glance as battle scene doodles of the type that occupied the time and imaginations of young boys, they soon distinguish themselves as something far more refined. Through his paintings, Doucette tackles the cost of conflict, considering its innocent victims and the history that was lost with them. Taking its name from the body of work from which this exhibition is derived, Histoires/Histories examines the artist's attempt to redress the often one-sided perspective that follows in the wake of colonialism.
