Description
The first book in the new series Migration and Diversity, International Migration and the Governance of Religious Diversity explores the wide range of social and political responses to religious diversity found in Western states. Contributors focus on changes in the political, legal, and social responses to religious diversity that have resulted from increased international migration and the public visibility of new religious minorities in the West. They examine contemporary theoretical debates about the governance of religious diversity in immigrant-receiving countries and present original in-depth analyses of specific national contexts, allowing readers to observe social forces at work in the governance of religious diversity. Contributors put these national case studies into comparative perspective through an examination of both international normative frameworks for policy-formulation and the impact of contemporary world events on international public discourse about the relationship between religious diversity and migration. Contributors include Veit Bader (University of Amsterdam), Paul Bramadat (University of Victoria), Desmond Cahill (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), Jocelyne Césari (CNRS, France & Harvard University), Mark Juergensmeyer (University of California, Santa Barbara), Matthias Koenig (University of Göttingen), Will Kymlicka (Queen's University), Peggy Levitt (Wellesley College), Micheline Milot (University of Quebec at Montreal), Julia Mourão Permoser (University of Vienna), Joanna Pfaff-Czarnecka (University of Bielefeld), Sieglinde Rosenberger (University of Vienna), and Paul Weller (University of Derby).
