Indigenous Storywork: Educating the Heart, Mind, Body, and Spirit

This book explores the idea and function of storytelling in Aboriginal culture. It specifically looks at the stories and storytelling culture of the Coast Salish of British Columbia. This resource is particularly useful for teachers wanting to know more about traditional Aboriginal storytelling and the role of storytelling and storytellers in Aboriginal cultures. Included is a chapter on how the author took part in developing an elementary curriculum that incorporated traditional storytelling. The book was written to describe the author’s research into storytelling as part of her work with the Native Indian Teacher Education Program at UBC but does contain a lot of useful information for teachers wishing to incorporate Aboriginal storytelling into their teaching.
