Health Promotion in Canada: Theory and Practice in Context is a comprehensive and balanced approach to the study of health promotion in Canada. The book is among the first Canadian texts of its kind to view health promotion in a wide context, introducing and applying key theories with the most up-to-date case studies and real-world examples available. Health Promotion in Canada consists of two parts, the first of which explores key health promotion theories, including individual and macro-level theories and the workings of health promotion in communities and organizations. In part two, key challenges and future directions in the practice of health promotion are analyzed, such as issues of global health inequalities and in Indigenous Health, as well as the rise of new health technologies. Each chapter features case studies which challenge students to apply their lessons in everyday situations.

Elena Neiterman is a continuing lecturer in the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. She received her PhD in Sociology from McMaster University in 2010. She is the author of nearly 50 articles on topics including the sociology of aging, qualitative research methods, and health promotion. She is also the co-author of The Social Dimensions of Health and Health Care in Canada 1e (Pearson 2014).
Samantha Meyer is an associate professor and the associate director of Graduate Studies in the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. She received her PhD in Public Health from Flinders University in Australia. Her research interests include access to and uptake of preventative services in Canada and equity in access to healthcare services.
Eric Filice is a PhD candidate in the school of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo.
