Description

Wally was planning to do his science project on his pet iguana. But just as he was getting started, he made a major discovery sure to rock the scientific community. He saw a dinosaur. Not a fossil, but a real dinosaur, right outside his bedroom window.

Dinosaurs are alive --- and living among us. In fact, they are right in Wally's backyard!

With the aid of stunning eyewitness accounts, The Extinct Files: My Science Project details the habitat, diet, grooming, health and fitness, communication and recreation of the contemporary dinosaurs, and much more. Wally has done his homework and it shows. His project follows tried-and-true scientific methodology and contains page after page of photographic evidence. But his shocking conclusion shows that today's dinos guard their privacy fiercely ...

The Extinct Files: My Science Project

Wallace Edwards’ picture books are always cleverly written visual smorgasbords. The more times you view his illustrations, the more layers you discover. The Extinct Files is no exception.

At first glance, this book is setup like any junior aged student’s science project; however the subject is DINOSAURS. Yes, the narrator spots one outside his bedroom window!

Students will love this comical book for its variety of dinosaurs that all have human qualities. These dinosaurs laugh, rollerblade, play guitar and meet for coffee to discuss movies. The humour begins with the inside book covers and the DIA (Dinosaur Intelligence Agency) reports detailing how “the dinosaur way of life is under threat.”

All readers will enjoy the vivid dinosaur illustrations. This science project incorporates both drawing book sketches and “photos” depicting the narrator’s close observations of dinosaurs’ everyday habits. The inclusion of such annotations as “Gorgeousaurus, closely related to Glamorousaurus” and of a young dino that is “a player in the Peewee Fossilball League” will give a giggle to readers of all ages.

The extra details such as the transparent tape, string and the three reinforced holes ensure that this exquisitely illustrated book is more than just a book about dinosaurs. This humorous picture book is a superb introduction to the scientific process for elementary students and great example of how to clearly organize information for a research project.
