In the late sixties, David Clayton-Thomas seemed to be on top of the world. The debut album of his band, Blood Sweat & Tears, had won five Grammys and was on its way to selling ten million copies. But success had come at a steep price.

The son of a tyrannical father, David left home at fifteen and became a street kid. He was still a teenager when he began serving time in prison, but fate intervened in the form of a battered guitar left behind by another inmate. David had found his calling. His move from Toronto to New York, where he joined the group that would forever change his life, would mark the turning point in an incredible journey filled with extreme highs and lows.

DAVID CLAYTON-THOMAS has sold more than forty million records to date. His 1968 debut album with Blood Sweat & Tears sold ten million copies worldwide and won five Grammy Awards. Clayton-Thomas’s hit songs include “Spinning Wheel,” “Lucretia MacEvil” and “You Made Me So Very Happy.” His rendition of “God Bless the Child” is considered a classic. In 1996 he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. “Spinning Wheel” was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007, and in 2010 David Clayton-Thomas received his star on Canada ’s Walk of Fame. He lives in Toronto .
