Description
The theory of surface electronic states is a widely researched topic which underlies all our knowledge of the behaviour of electrons at solid surfaces. It is of paramount importance in understanding the mechanics by which solid-state devices operate and catalytic reactions proceed. Now available in paperback, this book provides the most current and straightforward introduction to the subject. Although the subject is viewed through the 'theoretical eye' of a physicist, the topics are treated in an elementary fashion. The book is therefore accessible to all surface scientists with an understanding of quantum mechanics and some familiarity with solid state physics.

Editorial Reviews
'a welcome addition to the literature on Surface Science as it addresses the theoretical aspects of electronic surface states ... the authors have done an excellent job in presenting a complicated subject in a manner that is simple and easy to understand.' Raj Persaud, York University, Physics in Canada, July 1993
'It is an accessible, and already well-liked, monograph on an area of growing importance in physics. And a special feature in the book is the historical development of the field.' New Scientist, September 1996
'an important contribution to the field.' Aslib Book Guide, vol.61, no.12, December 1996.
