Description
A funny, adventure-packed picture book for children ages 4-7, inspired by radio personality Grant Lawrence’s bestselling memoir Adventures in Solitude.
The Lawrence family is on their way to a rustic cabin in BC’s remote Desolation Sound, but not everyone is excited. Young Grant and his little sister Heather would rather stay at home in the city and watch TV. The long drive has so many twists and turns that it makes them sick. When the family finally arrives, it’s too dark, the toilet is outside, and the neighbours are weird. But slowly, the kids discover the magic of the place and learn that there’s a lot more to life than television, gaining confidence through exciting and hilarious adventures with family and new friends. Now they can’t wait to come back next summer!
About the authors
Grant Lawrence is an award-winning author, CBC personality, singer, columnist and live event host. He is the author of three best-selling books for adults: Adventures in Solitude (2010), The Lonely End of the Rink (2013), and Dirty Windshields (2017). Bailey the Bat and the Tangled Moose, his first children's picture book, was released in 2021. Grant Lawrence is the first author in the history of the BC Book Prizes to win the Bill Duthie Booksellers Choice twice. Grant is also the host of the CBC Music Top 20, the lead singer of The Smugglers, a Canadian Screen Award winner, and a columnist for the North Shore News and Powell River Peak. He is also a goalie for the Vancouver Flying Vees beer league hockey team. Grant Lawrence is married to musician Jill Barber and they live in Vancouver with their two children, Josh and Grace. Return to Solitude is Grant's long-awaited sequel to Adventures in Solitude.
Ginger Ngo is a Canadian illustrator. Born and raised in the Philippines in a Chinese family, she is inspired by her own mixed-culture childhood. Her work draws from memories of no winters, walking barefoot on grass and gravel, and large family gatherings. She now lives in Vancouver, BC, and enjoys living close to nature, water and the mountains. She has an active sketchbook practice, drawing landscapes and everyday life.
