About the author
Gwladys V. Downes was born on April 22, 1915, in Victoria BC. She attended the University of British Columbia, the University of Toronto, and the Sorbonne, and worked as a French professor at the University of Victoria. As well as writing her own poetry, Downes translates the work of Quebec poets. She died in 2005.
