It’s Up to Us is based on the Terra Carta, a roadmap to sustainability issued by His Majesty King Charles III and his Sustainable Markets Initiative. The story explains in lyrical text how Nature operates in a world without humans. It then shows the damaging impact People have had on the Planet. It finishes by proposing a series of new pledges that we can all make – a Terra Carta – to help solve the problems.
This book has been developed in partnership with The Prince’s Foundation, a charity established by His Majesty to demonstrate how Nature can be put at the heart of human activities. Half of all the proceeds from sales will go directly to the work of the charity, based at Dumfries House in Scotland, UK.
Printed in Canada on 30% recycled FSC paper with vegetable inks, and all carbon impacts of the production have been offset through sustainable forestry programs.

About the authors
Throughout his adult life, His Majesty King Charles III has dedicated himself to charitable causes, including environmental protection and sustainable development. He launched the Terra Carta, his vision for a new contract between nature, people, and the planet, in early 2021.

Christopher Lloyd is a world history author, educator, and lecturer. His books include What on Earth Happened? The Complete Story of Planet, Life and People from the Beginning of Time to the Present Day (Bloomsbury 2008) and Absolutely Everything! A History of Earth, Dinosaurs, Rulers, Robots and Other Things Too Numerous to Mention (What on Earth Books 2018). Most recently he edited the Britannica All New Kids’ Encyclopedia: What We Know and What We Don’t (Britannica Books 2020). It’s Up to Us has been written in collaboration with The Prince’s Foundation, which provides holistic solutions to the challenges facing the world today and champions a sustainable approach to how we live our lives and build our communities.

Sydney Smith was born in rural Nova Scotia and has been drawing from an early age. Since graduating from NSCAD University, he has illustrated multiple children’s books, including the highly acclaimed wordless picture book Sidewalk Flowers, conceived by Jon Arno Lawson, which won a Governor General’s Award, was named a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book and has been long-listed for the Kate Greenaway Medal. He is also the illustrator of Grant and Tillie Go Walking by Monica Kulling and The White Cat and the Monk by Jo Ellen Bogart, both highly acclaimed. Sydney has received a number of other awards for his illustrations, including the Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Excellence in Illustration. He now lives in Toronto and works in a shared studio space in Chinatown.
VANINA STARKOFF is a graphic design graduate but discovered that her true passion lies in the world of images and children’s books. Her first book was a finalist in the III Premio Internacional Compostela for Illustrated Books, and she was selected twice as a finalist for the Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition in Shanghai. She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and now lives in Brazil.

Isol is an Argentine author and illustrator of children’s books with a passion for comic book artistry, literature and the visual arts. She has been honored with the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for her outstanding contribution to children's literature, has twice been selected as a finalist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award and has won a Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustration, Bratislava. Her delightful leporello, Tener un patito es util (It’s Useful to Have a Duck), was chosen by AIGA as one of its “50 Books/50 Covers” for concept and design, and it was also named one of “Los mejores libros para niños y jóvenes 2008” (The best books for children and youth 2008) by Venezuela’s Banco del Libro. Isol has also written and illustrated Petit, the Monster; Beautiful Griselda and Nocturne, and she has illustrated Doggy Slippers by Jorge Luján. As noted by the ALMA jury's citation of her work, "Taking children’s clear view of the world as her starting point, [Isol] addresses their questions with forceful artistic expression and offers open answers. With liberating humour and levity, she also deals with the darker aspects of existence." Her books are highly acclaimed by reviewers and have been published in Argentina, Mexico, Spain, France, Canada and the US. Isol is also an advertising illustrator, a professional singer and a comic book writer.
