Description

What would you do if your best friend lived half a world away—and suddenly vanished?
Loner Grace Ryan feels completely invisible. Awkward and shy, she can't seem to get ahead in her studies, social circle, or new relationship with her childhood best friend. But discovering Tokyo street fashion ignites her creativity and leads her into an unlikely online friendship with a Japanese high schooler.
Beautiful and fashionable Kana eats, sleeps and breathes English in order to pass her university entrance exam, but she's tired of sacrificing her own happiness for everyone else's high expectations. Kana finds a friend and conversation partner in Grace, relieved to distract herself with someone else's problems for a change.
Just when things are finally going right, Grace's best friend abandons her, her relationship falls apart, and Kana disappears without saying goodbye. Fearing for her friend's safety, Grace boards a flight to Japan…only to realize that she is completely unprepared for the bright lights and confusing streets of the real Tokyo.
Finding one lost girl among twelve million is much more than she bargained for.

About the author

Contributor Notes

Loren Greene was raised just outside of St. John's, Newfoundland. She developed an affinity for everything Japanese at a young age, an interest that eventually took her halfway around the world to Osaka, after earning a degree in English Literature from Memorial University.

Loren thrills at creating characters and scenarios that bridge the cultural gap, and hopes to encourage readers to find a sense of wonder in her unique style.

Excerpt: Meet You By Hachiko (by (author) Loren Greene)

She couldn’t even glance back over her shoulder. Her footfalls thundered on the sidewalk, and the slaps of her soles made it worse, as though the sound of a girl fleeing would be enough to attract more creepy perverts over for a share. She ran until she was under the awning of Shinjuku Station, and then, once safely inside and hidden around a corner, she crumpled to the floor, trembling.

What a mistake it had been, coming here! It had all been for nothing. She had spent too much money, hadn’t even come close to finding Kana, lied to her parents, and now this. Somehow, Grace still managed to feel small and ashamed as she heaved with the effort to catch her breath and keep in the tears. Her knees were too weak to stand on.

Right in front of her, the crowd continued to flow in and out of the station, without directing their attention to Grace for even a millisecond.

She was invisible.
