Jurate Gertzbein a écrit ou participé à la rédaction de plus de quinze livres, dont Roadside Geolog y of Ontario and Rock ON: Geolog y of Ontario. Elle a fait carrière pendant trente ans dans le domaine de la géologie en tant que géologue d’exploration, géologue d’interprétation, prospectrice, inspectrice minière et conseillère en exploitation minière pour les gouvernements provincial et fédéral. Jurate a été directrice de la Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association et de la Manitoba Prospectors and Developers Association, et a été la porte-parole du Programme d’aide aux prospecteurs de l’Ontario. Même à la retraite, elle demeure active en s’adonnant à la recherche de pierres précieuses et en faisant du bénévolat lors d’évènements portant sur les sciences de la Terre. Elle partage son temps entre un camp éloigné au bord d’un lac dans le nord-ouest de l’Ontario et une maison de pierres historique à Hill Country, au Texas.
