Description
Addie, a young girl growing up on a prairie farm in the 1930s, is scared of almost everything -- the big turkey gobbler in the yard, thunderstorms, rats and the big bull on the way to her grandmother's house. But things change one afternoon when a hawk swoops down, threatening her grandmother's chickens. In the face of real danger, Addie summons courage from deep within herself to scare the hawk away. When Addie Was Scared -- based on the real-life experience of the author and illustrator's mother -- is a dramatic and affirming story, lovingly told in spare and eloquent prose. Children will relate to Addie, and her experience will inspire them to find their own ways to be brave -- just when they need to be.
