About the authors

Simon Awa was born and raised at a traditional outpost camp near Igloolik. Over the past thirty years he has held positions as Senior Administrative Officer for the Hamlet of Pond Inlet, President of the Baffin Region Inuit Association, Announcer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Manager of Operations for CBC, and various governmental roles beginning in 1993 when Simon was appointed Executive Director for the Nunavut Implementation Commission.

Anna Ziegler is the principal of Arctic Willow Consulting, which specializes in program development and evaluation in community wellness, poverty reduction, and adult learning. She has completed graduate research on practices of archiving Inuit traditional knowledge. After living in Iqaluit, Nunavut, for fourteen years, she now resides in Ottawa, Ontario, and works on projects with groups across Inuit Nunangat. She is also the co-author, with Rebecca Hainnu and Aalasi Joamie, of Edible and Medicinal Arctic Plants: An Inuit Elder’s Perspective.

Stephanie McDonald grew up on a farm in southwestern Ontario and graduated from Trent University with an Honours Degree in International Development Studies and Canadian Studies. She moved north in 2006, first to Yellowknife, NT, and a year later to Iqaluit, NU, where she lived for three years. Stephanie has worked as a reporter with Nunavut News North, as Communications and Research Manager with the Nunavut Association of Municipalities.

Romi Caron is a professional illustrator with over 18 years of experience illustrating children books. She has illustrated more than 40 books for children, including two written by Marilyn Baillie, Small Wonders and Amazing Things Animals Do. Her books have been nominated for numerous awards, including Canadian Children's Book Centre Our Choice, the Saskatchewan Young Reader's Choice Awards, and the Outstanding Children's Book Award from the Animal Behaviour Society of Canada.
