Excerpt: The Countryside Stories: Johnny is Planning to Build a House or Is He? (by (author) Lana Guzman; photographs by Edgar Guzman)
Those were the first few days of the fifth summer on Johnny's estate. It was not even the first weekend yet, but Johnny was preparing to "open the season" as would have already become a custom for him to say. Change was in the air, only not the kind of change that the family could imagine. Johnny spent the previous autumn, winter, and spring thinking and re-thinking how to approach the country house construction. Mind you, it had to be free or at least very cheap. It also had to be a large house. And, of course, it had to be something Johnny would like. As much as none of that was ever attainable (at the very least not for free or cheaply), Johnny kept believing it was possible. All he had to do, he thought, was to press his wife and daughter hard enough to get them to build that country house of his. He had already started to lay the groundwork for that. He spent the whole autumn, winter, and spring repeating the same thing over and over again to his wife and daughter: "I am not going to build a house for you, so you can live there. It is YOU, who are going to build a house for ME, so I can live there!"
