Description
In 1845 Upper Canada the spark ignites between Tehawenniharhos of the Mohawk Turtle clan and the young Scotchwoman Jennet Ferguson, kindling a fire that drives this truly Canadian novel on an epic adventure of adversity and romance.
Set against a backdrop of the European land grab of Six Nations territory, this story casts a broad shadow over the landscape of cultures and identity that was coming to define the emerging nation of Canada.
About the author
Contributor Notes
Dr. Susan Minsos, author and retired coordinator of Canadian Studies at the University of Alberta, grew up in Brantford, Ontario, along the Grand River and in the heart of the Haldimand Tract. Minsos is proud to have an ancestor from the Six Nations. In her Sky Walker / Tehawenniharhos stories, she brings the history of mid-19th century Ontario to vivid life and creates a new Canadian hero. Renowned nationalist Mel Hurtig once said of her work: "No one understands culture like Minsos. A great yarn. Entertaining, absorbing, wicked."
Editorial Reviews
Brilliant! A young Mohawk's journey to find his voice amidst colliding cultures, with a memorable ensemble of heros and villains, and the certain allure of a plucky Scotchwoman. You'll love this book.
