Signals 1 is an EAP textbook that provides realistic academic lectures to help students acquire essential listening, note-taking, discussion, and presentation skills. It also includes presentation tutor videos and "listen and read" recordings. Each skill is carefully explained, modelled, and practised to prepare students for college and university success.

About the authors

Contributor Notes

Kelly Goodick has close to 20 years of teaching experience, ranging from elementary and middle-school levels to the university classroom in New Brunswick. She has taught classes in both French Immersion and EAL. Kelly enjoys creating new content for her courses to keep the subject matter relevant and engaging. She is currently working on developing new courses and curriculum for college and university classrooms that are specific to different career paths, such as health-care workers.

Bill Hodges has been the academic coordinator and head teacher at the University of Guelph's English Language Programs since 2003, where he has helped prepare thousands of international students from all over the world for academic degree studies in Canada. Bill holds a Master of Education (TESL) degree and is a frequent presenter at international conferences on topics related to English for academic purposes. He has enjoyed teaching and travelling in Japan and South Korea.

Lynelle Klassen is a Canadian instructor who specializes in English for Academic Purposes. She is committed to helping students develop the language and academic skills that will help them flourish in their university studies. Lynelle always enjoys the opportunity to work on curriculum development projects and has a passion for creating meaningful learning materials.

Ryan J. Warriner is an accomplished author, instructor, and academic specializing in language acquisition and English for Academic Purposes. With extensive experience as an instructor, program coordinator, instructor trainer, and professor, he has made significant contributions to the field. Having taught in Canada, the United States, and Australia, Ryan's global perspective and diverse teaching experiences have enriched his understanding of language acquisition. Currently serving as an instructor and coordinator at McMaster University, he is dedicated to advancing oral communication skills and empowering students to excel in their language proficiency as they transition through higher education.
