Description

This colorful whirlwind journey across Canada takes young readers from coast to coast to coast, revealing the awe-inspiring scope and iconic images of their amazing country. Like the other bestsellers in the Canada Concept Books series, this book is not only an introduction to Canada, but also a popular souvenir book for tourists and an ideal gift.

Bike along PEI's red dirt roads, set sail in Quebec City, help with the harvest near Saskatoon or hike a glacier in Yukon Territory in the company of the familiar lovable cast of animal characters.

Along the way, children will learn about the flags and the official trees, flowers and birds of each province or territory. A more immediate and memorable introduction to the imagery of Canada --- and to what makes our country unique --- has never before been published.

Librarian Reviews

Oh, Canada! (Canada Concept Books)

Here is the fourth book in the Canada Concept Books series – including ABC of Canada, Canada 123 and Canada in Colours. Like the others, this title provides an easy introduction to our country. Each double-page spread looks at one province or territory. We see the flag, the tree, the flower and the bird on one page and an outdoor adventure, usually at some provincial landmark, on the other page. Whale-watching in Newfoundland, biking the red roads of PEI, looking at Niagara Falls in Ontario, skiing in British Columbia – these are some of the ways we can experience Canada.

A map of the whole country is included along with some brief facts. The English words to the national anthem are on the inside front cover (although without any indication that it is the anthem); it would have been nice to have the French words too. There is useful information here but it is a bit of a whirlwind, as the back cover states. Its main appeal lies in the illustrations by graphic artist Per-Henrik Gurth. He uses simple lines and bold colours outlined in black to create a two-dimensional look that is striking. He makes our great big country seem fun and exciting, and a little bit cozy, all at the same time.
