Description
Music in The Dark is a compelling novel set in Prohibition-era Montreal when alcohol, drugs and jazz music ruled “Sin City.” Taylor Williams is a young black musician struggling to find fame in the Montreal Harlem District amid gangsters, racism and bootleggers. As a young boy, Taylor escaped a terrifying ordeal that haunts him as he pursues his dream of becoming a famous jazz musician.
About the author
Anthony Sherwood is an award-winning actor/director/producer/playwright who has worked extensively in film, television and stage for the past 35 years. He was born in Halifax and is a fifth generation African-Nova Scotian. Anthony was raised in Montreal and music has always played a strong role in his life. He comes from a musical family, his mother was a singer and his grandmother was an accomplished musician and music teacher. His aunt, Portia White, was Canada’s first famous black opera singer and a legendary icon in Nova Scotia history. Anthony started his acting career in musical theatre and then later branched off into television and feature film. He is an accomplished documentary filmmaker and has traveled the world producing documentaries on a number of different subjects. His passion is telling stories from the African-Canadian experience and has received numerous national and international awards for his work. Some of his awards include the Gemini Award, Martin Luther King Achievement Award, Brampton Arts Acclaim Award, African-Canadian Achievement Award, Planet Africa Award and the Harry Jerome Award.Music in the Dark is his first novel
