"I remember gathering plants and berries with my grandmother while she shared her stories and her deep understanding of traditional plants and their uses. My grandmother healed us with her medicinal plants—everything from pink eye, sore throats, stomach ailments, aches and pains, and infections. She’d make us these beautiful, healing teas." –Carrie

About the author

Carrie is a proud Metis woman, teacher, and award-winning business woman who has founded and created the Indigenous-themed beauty product and tea company, Mother Earth Essentials. It's mission is to educate Canadians on the beauty of Indigenous culture and contributions made by Indigenous people. Her company is based on education, awareness and a high quality line of retail products produced from traditional plants and recipes.Carrie worked in the cosmetic and spa industry for more than 15 years before returning to school to earn a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She taught at Amiskwaciy Academy, an Indigenous high school. The school had a traditional plant garden that Carrie used to create hands-on learning opportunities for her students. Seeing the positive reaction from the students was inspiring, she realized the need to start showcasing the beauty of her culture. These experiences as well as her background in aesthetics was the genesis for her own line of personal care products, Mother Earth Essentials. In 2018, her company, Mother Earth Essentials, began working with Manitobah Mukluks. The have helped her to grow Mother Earth Essentials.Carrie was born and raised in Alberta, learning Indigenous traditions from her grandmother. She is a dedicated mother of three incredible kids. For her, family comes first and is the central focus of her life. "I really felt my grandmother’s hand guiding me. I had been disconnected from my Indigenous traditions and roots. It was at the school that I learned more about my own community and our traditions, rekindling my own cultural pride. I could relate to each and every one of the students." –Carrie
