About the author
“Morningstar Mercredi is a storyteller, actress, social activist, poet, playwright, researcher and multi-media communicator. She has previously published one non-fiction children’s book, Fort Chipewayan Homecoming, which was a finalist in the Silver Birch young reader’s choice award in Ontario. She has also had poetry published in the Gatherings Anthology series. She has done extensive acting work in film, television, radio and on the stage.Born in Uranium City, Saskatchewan, Morningstar Mercredi has lived in Alberta – Fort Chipewayan, Calgary, and Fort McMurray; Saskatchewan – Saskatoon and Prince Albert; British Columbia – Cranbrook, Kimberly, Merritt, Penticton, and Surrey; and the Northwest Territories – Yellowknife and Rae/Edze nwt. She also settled for a time in Gisborne, New Zealand and Nowra, Australia. She currently makes Edmonton her home.

Morningstar is a no-holds barred autobiography of Morningstar Mercredi, a Métis born in Uranium City, Saskatchewan. Mercredi pulls no punches as she describes the abject poverty and neglect she suffered as a child, as well as the sexual abuse by her stepfather that began at the age of five. As she grew older, her poor self-worth led to alcohol and drug abuse. However, out of these tragic beginnings, a strong young woman in touch with her Aboriginal roots emerges.Mercredi is a poet, author, storyteller, social activist and actress. Her non-fiction work, Fort Chipewayan Homecoming, was a finalist in the Silver Birch Awards. Her poetry was published in the Gatherings anthology.
