Description
The story of a young city growing up, and the gutsy reporters and fearless photographers who told its stories.
It has been said, and it is true, that a daily newspaper is the first draft of history. But it is so much more than that, at least in the case of the Vancouver Sun, which for the past century has been telling the story of its young namesake city and the people who live there.
Publishing through race riots and hockey riots, the tragedy of missing women and the glory of the Olympic Games, Vancouver's intrepid and tenacious daily has grown alongside its city, surviving a century of radical change to the business of news.
Making Headlines is a riveting tour through a century of stories that defined a city, featuring the best of the Sun's iconic photographs, and written by beloved columnist Shelley Fralic. It is also the story behind the stories: a glimpse into the loud, smoky newsroom of years gone by, and a personal look at the gifted and gutsy columnists, cartoonists and photographers who filled the pages of Vancouver's daily.
For 100 years, the Sun has offered a first draft of history. This is the edited version.
