Alydia Smith is a worship leader, educator, caregiver, mother, and Jesus-follower who works at the General Council Office of The United Church of Canada, supporting worship and faith formation ministries. She is a tuba player who holds a Bachelor in Music from Western University, a Master of Divinity from the Atlantic School of Theology, and a Doctorate in Worship from Drew University, under the mentorship of Donald Hilliard and Leonard Sweet. Alydia loves learning and crafting and is always looking for new opportunities to grow and create.

Edna Bovas, born in Kuwait and of South Indian heritage, arrived in Turtle Island around grade 3 and has experienced the diaspora blues ever since. They grew up in the Pentecostal tradition, steeped in music, so much so that they have been singing on their church’s worship team for the last eight years. With an MA in English Literatures grounded in Women and Gender studies, Edna will venture into their PhD in Religion and Practice at the Graduate Theological Union in fall 2018. They currently work as a Local SCM Co-coordinator and a piano and vocal teacher.

Rev. Basil Coward has served in congregational ministry for 25 years and currently serves with Victoria Square United Church in Markham, Ontario, in addition to being a counsellor at George Brown College in Toronto. Basil’s work is integrated into one practice of accompanying others on the journeys of life, and manifests itself in his roles as minister, educator, counsellor, and writer.

Rev. Jennifer Garbin is an ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and currently serves as the Regional Minister for Canada. She hails from the Ottawa Valley but has lived and worked in Toronto, Niagara Falls, Guelph, Nova Scotia, and Windsor. No matter where she has made her home, her love of the church has remained constant. She believes passionately that God calls to all who follow Christ to not only live in love but also to BE love. This is the task, purpose, and identity of the church—to go and BE Christ wherever we find ourselves.

Peter Haresnape is the National Coordinator of the Student Christian Movement of Canada and one of the pastors serving Toronto United Mennonite Church. He is one of the organizers of the annual ecumenical Cahoots Festival of Faith, Justice, and DIY, where participants share skills, games, questions, meals, and stories to practise being the radical, non-hierarchical, peacemaking community that Jesus has called us to be. Peter lives with husband and housemates in the former Catholic Worker community and happily identifies as an #Ecumenerd, enjoying cups of tea with friends and enemies.

Paola Márquez, born in Barranquilla, Colombia (caribeña), is the rebel daughter of two pastors who has lived on a parsonage her entire life. She is currently working as the youth coordinator for the Colombian Methodist Church. Paola is passionate about creating safe spaces in church for minorities and marginalized people. She is a dedicated daughter and student who is lucky to have amazing friends all over the world who make her better every day.

Rev. Dr. Greer Anne Wenh-In Ng, author of the past UCPH Lenten book Tears and Hallelujahs, is a retired professor at Emmanuel College, Victoria University in the University of Toronto, who previously taught at Vancouver School of Theology, and Trinity Theological College in Singapore. Having served The United Church of Canada locally (Toronto), regionally (Hamilton Conference and Toronto Conference), and nationally (as writer/editor of various resources and, after retirement, as Interim General Council Minister: Racial Justice), Wenh-In currently continues to guest preach in various congregations around the Greater Toronto Area and to co-chair Emmanuel College’s Committee for Asia/North American Asian Theologies (CANAAT) at its Centre for Religion and Its Contexts.

Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson serves as the Minister for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations for the United Church of Christ. She is an inspiring preacher, teacher, poet, and author whose work has been published in a number of media and publications. Karen Georgia earned a BA from Brooklyn College in New York; a Master’s in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC; and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York. She also studied Public Policy at Duke University and earned her Doctorate in Ministry at Seattle University.
