Description

In 2005, the Saskatoon German Days Committee began the process to create a permanent monument honouring pioneer women who settled in Saskatchewan in the late 1800s or early 1900s. The bronze Egg Money statue was unveiled in Saskatoon’s downtown River Landing in September 2009, recognizing the strength and resourcefulness of pioneer women from all ethnic backgrounds for their lives of courage, hardship and perseverance. The lives of 24 of these ordinary yet extraordinary Prairie pioneer women, recalled by their families, are celebrated in this book.

Editorial Reviews

“We catch glimpses of 24 courageous, hard-working, caring individuals in the stories written by family members ... You can almost smell the freshly baked bread, hear the chickens, enjoy the gardens and watch these heroes sew clothing for their children.”
