Using his characteristic wit and a James Herriot-style of humorous storytelling, Dr. Hoium spins even more tales of his adventures while explaining, for example, why it is important to ask questions before buying a “used” rabbit, how a dog’s day is determined by smelly pants, and what a vet has to do when he runs out of dry clothes during a Prairie springtime snowstorm.

About the author
Gary Hoium was born and raised in the small community of Midale, in southeastern Saskatchewan, located midway between Weyburn and Estevan along Highway 39. He pursued a career in hockey but turned to mixed-animal veterinary practice when a future as a professional hockey player didn’t turn out. He purchased a clinic in Weyburn in 1989, renaming it Hoium Veterinary Services. He sold it in 2004 and continued to work as a contracted/commissioned employee with the renamed Prairie Animal Health Centre, performing much of the clinic's live-cattle exports to the USA until recently. He resides in Weyburn with his wife, Shelley, and enjoys spending time with their two adult children and spouses and their five grandchildren.
