About the author
Contributor Notes
I've lived my life outside the box. It's been a hustle life, filled with excitement and intrigue. At the young age of 22, I went to Hollywood seeking fame. People would always tell me how beautiful I was, and that I should be a movie star. When I met a pro boxer who was from L.A. I decided I would take the chance at fame and fortune in Hollywood.
After a short time, I distanced myself from Marty Monroe, and went out seeking fame on my own, when I met with bad company, forced into prostitution, run by seven pimps. My Canadian identity was taken from me, thrust into a dangerous life of pimps and prostitution. When it became unbearable, I was befriended by a movie producer, and eventually was able to come back to Canada.
Of course. that experience gave me great material for a book. I married a champion jockey who lost at the wire to cocaine, that book is called Beaten at the Wire, still in the works. At this time, I am on the final edit of my next novel, a psychological thriller with a serial killer - his appetite - crack addicted street prostitutes.
My life reads like a book, and I have many stories to thrill my readers. My great grandfather from the 1800's, Henry Rowe Schoolcraft, a famous writer in history books, is my muse to claim. I promise to never bore my readers, but rather keep them waiting more.
Excerpt: Alice had a Palace (by (author) Brenda Rae Schoolcraft)
When I was a little girl, I would ask Mom to tell me her childhood stories, over and over again. We didn’t have a library of children books, but I never missed a thing. The recollections of her childhood stories was all I needed. There were so many things happening to Mom at different stages of her life that fascinated me, as they will fascinate you. I draw events from my mother’s life, starting in her childhood. I tell them to you, the best I remember. One thing for sure, you will never forget Alice.
This story begins in the Great Depression, better known as the Dirty Thirties.
Alice was born in 1924, in Nova Scotia, Canada, to Irene and William Purple. Moments after her birth, the midwife announced, “The baby is dead.” Just as God reached his hand out to take his angel back, she loses her grasp, falling back to earth.
An innocent soul, caught in the hands of fate.
Instead of fairy-tale characters in another Alice story, my Alice endured real-life monsters and a life on earth symbolic of hell. It hurts me to take her back to the events in this book. She was eighty when I started to write this story.
This book is to celebrate my mother’s life and to give her closure. It is the healing of my soul, finally able to wash away the pain of a tsunami of tears.
A story that begged to be told, an epic multigenerational read that spans my mother’s life to my father’s life and my life, Brenda Rae Schoolcraft.
I show you how abuse gathers speed and becomes a cycle, like a runaway train. Many can never get off, and it manifests into a demon of hurt. The children suffer needlessly, caught up in the cycle that resonates with them the rest of their lives, sometimes destroying them as adults, turning to drugs and alcohol to suppress the hurt that seems to never go away.
Editorial Reviews
"A story of illness, addiction, criminality, and brutality against those most vulnerable, yet a story of love and survival at the same time. A book so riveting you cannot put down once started. It will break your heart. It will warm your heart at the same time. You will cry both kinds of tears – those of shock and disbelief, but also those of admiration for the survivors and the love that pulled them through. Best of all, it’s largely a true story. One could not make up such a story. And with the author having lived the story, you can feel the emotions are raw and real. This book will give you extreme empathy for anyone living nightmares like this. And for those fortunate to never have had to deal with such horrors, you will be deeply thankful." - Dave Bailey, Amazon Reviewer
"Riveting...page turner...I couldn't put it down. One of the best books I've ever read. It was very special to me as Brenda Schoolcraft is one of my best friends. Her heart was poured out on the page like the love for her dear Mother. She is an amazing writer and poet. I have the utmost confidence that she will be noticed and recognized. Brenda is a shining star and I love her dearly. She is truly a work of art. I can't wait for her next book to be released!!" - Carly Bokamyer, Amazon Reviewer
