About the Authors

Michael Kusugak is Inuit and was raised in Nunavut. He writes books for children and travels, often telling the stories he heard from his grandmother when he was growing up. Michael's work has won the Ruth Schwartz Award for children's literature and has been short-listed for various other awards. In 2008, Michael was the recipient of the Vicky Metcalf Award for Children’s Literature for his body of work. Michael lives and works in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.

Germaine Arnaktauyok is an Inuit artist and illustrator, best known for her prints and etchings depicting Inuit myths and traditional ways of life. In 1999, she designed the special edition two-dollar coin commemorating the founding of the territory of Nunavut. She is the co-author, with Gyu Oh, of My Name Is Arnaktauyok: The Life and Art of Germaine Arnaktauyok. She lives in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Michael Kusugak is a very well-known Canadian author and co-wrote a popular children's book with Robert Munsch

Jose Kusugak (deceased, 2011) was an influential Canadian politician and beloved Inuit cultural advocate, referred to by some as the “Last Father of Confederation' because of his work negotiating the land claims that led to the creation of Nunavut - Germaine Arnaktauyok is a talented Inuk printmaker and painter who designed the reverse of the commemorative Canadian two-dollar coin in 1999 to celebrate the creation of Nunavut

George Freeman is well known in Canadian comic circles, and has done work for both DC and Marvel Comics. He was inducted into the Canadian Comic Book Creator Hall of Fame in 2010

Susan Thurston Shirley is a resident of Rankin Inlet and known for her paintings of the stark and beautiful Arctic landscape
