Description
A whimsical love letter to vintage camper vans that spreads positivity and kindness and celebrates individuality.
Capturing the quirky designs and adventurous spirit of vintage camper vans, affectionately known as “eggs on wheels,” this cheerful picture book spreads love and affirmations on every page. Each illustration shows a different model of vintage camper van receiving a unique compliment from a friendly bird. This simple concept teaches young children to celebrate what makes each person special and loveable and to share love and positivity to their friends and family wherever they go. A Little Camper Love is the perfect book to bring along on family camping trips—whether you are travelling in a vintage camper or wish you were!—and helps foster self-confidence and consideration towards others.
About the author
Rayna Meakin is an illustrator and lover of vintage things, including vintage fibreglass campers. She expresses herself through many artforms, including painting, pottery, and floral design. She is the illustrator of Planted: Stories from Manitoba’s Natural World, by Kaitlin Vitt. Her 1977 Surfside inspired her to complete the series of watercolour illustrations of vintage campers at the kitchen table, surrounded by her children.
Editorial Reviews
“Rayna Meakin’s A Little Camper Love is a whimsical catalogue of sweet vintage campers. A simply written, gentle charmer, lovingly illustrated in pastel strokes. Bolers and other “eggs on wheels” roll through this charming picture book in celebration of individual differences. Young readers will enjoy independently 'reading the pictures' as well as listening to the engaging and relatable text. A delight from start to finish.”
—Leslie A Davidson, award-winning author of two picture books, In The Red Canoe and The Sun is a Shine and a memoir, Dancing in Small Places: One Couple’s Journey with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease
“Deceptively simple, A Little Camper Love by Rayna Meakin illustrates how we may all look similar but can be very different inside. Each camper is tasked with different responsibilities and assisted by charming bird companions who reflect that purpose.”
—Joanne Thomson, author and illustrator of 300 Mason Jars: Preserving History
""The combination of beautiful artwork, positive affirmations, and the nostalgic love tribute to vintage camper vans reminds me to return to appreciating the simple things in life that can bring so much joy and connection.”
