Description

People and places come and go, but the after-party never stops when it's 2AM Eternal.

Your host, Eric Kostiuk Williams, captures a decade of nightlife in Toronto’s queer community, from basements to the backstage to back rooms. Collecting one hundred event posters from 2012 to 2022, short comics stories, and hand-written notes from the author, the organizers, the performers, and the crowd, 2AM Eternal makes a scene – until last call. The pandemic prompts a series of posters for cancelled events, and a pivot to digital events in the days of lockdown, before the manic, uneasy re-emergence of face-to-face, wall-to-wall living.

About the author

Contributor Notes

Eric Kostiuk Williams is an illustrator and cartoonist based in Toronto, Ontario. He graduated from Ontario College of Art & Design University's illustration program in 2014. Kostiuk Williams first came to international attention upon the release of his self-published series, Hungry Bottom Comics, which fuses memoir and cultural critique to explore internalized homophobia in the gay community, the rise of hookup apps, and the struggles in finding community.

Editorial Reviews

"By linking his lived experience to the ebbs and flows of his clubbing community, Williams creates a unique blend of autobiography and ethnography. A rare feat, this collection informs, entertains, and seduces." - Publishers Weekly

“Eric Kostiuk Williams’ comics are visually defined by their malleability. His forms shine like latex and stretch like taffy, and his stories take place in surreal, psychedelic environments that morph as time passes. That fluid visual aesthetic ties into major themes of his work like gender expression, queer culture, and urban preservation and development, all of which involve people and places in a constant state of change.” - The AV Club

“The piece is a meditation both on how we apply the filter of social media to ourselves and others, and how the internet can actually help bridge gaps between people of very different points of view and value systems.” - PEN America

“This comic of queer-loving and support resurrects the bite of David Wojnarowicz, inspiring readers with a fierce sense of humor and an activist rallying call.” - Lambda Literary

“Eric is a major, visionary talent in both the queer comics scene and larger alternative comics world.” - The Comics Journal
