Description

The Calgary Project : Urban Form / Urban Life represents the culmination of five years of diligent research and observation in a unique and timely study of this prairie metropolis. The authors choose to look at the city of Calgary not only because of its phenomenal growth, but also to consider the premise that the evolution of any city reflects the ideology and cultural values of its inhabitants. When the different eras of significant growth are examined a pattern emerges that reflects the myriad of choices in urban design and planning and the impact of these decisions on the spatial qualities of the public realm. It is in this context that The Calgary Project serves as an invaluable case study for considering the often changing theories and practices of urban planning, providing a lens through which to analyze city form and its evolution.
