Denise Desautels was born on April 4, 1945, in Montreal. She has published some thirty-odd works of poetry and books about art and artists since 1975, both in Quebec and elsewhere. She has also written a novel, Ce fauve, le Bonheur. She has received many awards, among them la Société des écrivains canadiens Prize for Tombeau de Lou, the Governor General's Prize for Le Saut de l'Ange and la Fondation les Forges Prize for Leçons de Venise. She is a regular participant in conferences and meetings devoted to Quebec poetry and contemporary literature and its interplay with the other arts, with particular emphasis on the visual arts. Denise Desautels is a member of the Académie des lettres du Québec.
