No matter how long you live in Saskatchewan, you will never see the same sky twice. The crisp blue on a cold winter’s day. Towering Cumulonimbus clouds like cotton balls stretching high into the heavens. Wind-sculpted supercells resembling layered cakes or otherworldly motherships. The crack of extraordinary lightning bolts. The slow dance of northern lights. Breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Each one is a unique moment in time, never to be repeated. No matter where else you might go, you will always remember the land of living skies.

Craig Hilts is recognized as one of North America’s leading severe weather photographers, capturing some of nature’s most magnificent and dangerous natural phenomena. Every year Craig travels over 30,000 kilometres, seeking out and photographing unique moments and turning them into works of art. Though he travels from the Canadian Prairies to “tornado alley” in the United States, his favourite place to photograph is his home province of Saskatchewan. Craig grew up in Saskatchewan where experiencing a close lightning strike at the age of twelve sparked an intense interest in the severe weather of the Prairies. In 2006, he began teaching himself photography, as well as how to forecast and chase severe weather. Over the years, Craig grew fond of capturing the many magnificent moments Saskatchewan skies have to offer. From the wonder of the northern lights and starry skies to the intense colours of a Saskatchewan sunrise or sunset, there is no end to the inspiration he finds in nature’s ever-changing canvas. Craig’s work has received multiple awards, has been featured in numerous publications, and is on display at the Biosphere Museum in Montreal, Quebec. His works have been purchased by people from around the world who share his passion for Saskatchewan and the Land of Living Skies.
