Dale Jarvis on Haunted Ground

According to tradition, Hallowe’en is the time of year when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest. It’s also the time of year when the nights get longer and colder, which is perfect for getting together to share stories that make you shiver. Those of us who live on the east coast of Canada love to tell stories, and ghost stories have always been a part of that. As an author, storyteller, and folklorist, I’m privileged to live in a part of Canada with such a great tradition of folk beliefs, superstitions, and stories. Around here, our oral traditions, and the stories that link us to specific locations, remain very strong today. Our history and our geography have helped with that sense of being from a special place, something I explored in my most recent book, Haunted Ground: Ghost Stories from the Rock. Dale Jarvis is a storyteller and professional folklorist who splits his time between St. John’s and Clarke’s Beach, Newfoundland, Canada. The proprietor of the St. John’s Haunted Hike ghost tour, Dale tells ghost stories, supernatural stories, legends and traditional tales from Newfoundland, Labrador and beyond. Author of several books, he is a tireless promoter of oral traditions.
