Darlene Quaife

Internationally recognized, Darlene Barry Quaife's first novel, Bone Bird (Turnstone) won her the Commonwealth Writer's Prize for First Book (Canada/Caribbean Region). Her second novel is Days & Nights on the Amazon (Turnstone).She has published short stories, poetry and nonfiction in a variety of publications, and has supported her writing over the years with stints as a bank teller, a freelance writer, and a writing instructor.
In 1996 Darlene broke into playwriting, winning a nation-wide competition for new one-act plays and having her radio play Tongue & Tail produced and broadcast by CKUA. She was also one of six playwrights commissioned to write a new one act play for LunchBox Theatre's Stage One Program in Calgary. Her contribution, UnderDog, was workshopped and read in April at the LunchBox Theatre.
Darlene has been President of the Writers' Guild of Alberta, and is a Director of the Banff/Calgary International Writers' Festival, WordFest. She lives in Priddis, Alberta, just outside Calgary.
