About
Ned Pratt
Ned Pratt (b. 1964) lives on the island of Newfoundland, where he was born and has spent most of his life. He holds a BFA in photography from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a BA in art history from Acadia University. Newfoundland has inspired much of Pratt's artwork. His studio in St. John's — originally an old bakery, renovated using traditional carpentry — serves as the base for both his art practice and his commercial work.
Pratt's photography has been exhibited at the former Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, PREFIX Photo, and The Rooms. His work was included in the 2012 Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival and in the exhibition Oh, Canada at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (2012–13) and subsequent tour (2013–16). He holds the 2017 Large Year Award from VANLCARFAC for Excellence in the Visual Arts. His work has been written about in Canadian Art, CBC Arts, MOMUS, and Mason Journal, among others. Pratt's photographs are held in major public and corporate collections, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, BMO, Global Affairs Canada, McCarthy Tetrault, Royal Bank of Canada, The Rooms, Scotiabank, TD Bank Group, and Torys. His work is also held in private collections across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. He is represented by Christina Parker Gallery in St. John’s and Nicholas Metivier Gallery in Toronto.
