Born in Calgary, Mary Elizabeth Nelson has been both a teacher-librarian and a language arts teacher. She wrote her first book at age four. Her interest in all things medieval started with fairy tales and books such as The Count of Monte Cristo. Mary's textbook Medieval Times (L'époque médiévale) is used in Ontario schools. She has four children and three grandchildren and presently lives and writes on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
