Mbala (Michael Bailey) has been performing poetry in Jamaica since the 1970s, self-accompanied on acoustic instruments including congas, guitar, bamboo flutes and saxophone. He works as a graphic designer and did set and costume design for a number of Jamaican theatre companies. He is vice-president of the Poetry Society of Jamaica
