Laura Kooji is a writer, activist, educator, musician and beadworker. Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, she grew up in Caledonia and Hamilton next to Six Nations and New Credit reserves. Laura has worked in the urban Indigenous community in Hamilton as a Support Worker and Educator for the past ten years. As an activist and educator, she talks about LGBTQIA+ and Two Spirit people, anti-colonization and feminism. Her published articles are about cultural appropriation and identity, in print and online. She is the co-founder and editor of Bent Q Media, an online resource run by and for members of Hamilton Ontario’s LGBTQIA+ and Two Spirit communities. Laura is learning Anishnaabemowin (Ojibway) and Kanyen'kehà:ka (Mohawk) languages in an effort to bring their creative energy into Indigenous language revitalization.
