About

Ralph Jarvis

Ralph Jarvis grew up on a farm in southern Newfoundland and developed a great love of nature, heritage and art. He enjoyed a career combining work as a wildlife biologist, natural history curator and illustrator, exhibit design, sustainable tourism and heritage communication. He also applies his graphic design and illustration skills to painting and fiber arts and has exhibited work in group, solo and international shows. He is known for exploring fabric collage and representing the nature and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador in loose free—form designs that draw on the colours, landscape features and native species of this place.

Since 2016, Ralph and Corey Follett have worked as The Quilted Stash which has successfully developed and marketed quilting patterns best described as modern traditionalism. Quilted Stash patterns feature Newfoundland and Labrador themes and icons and can be completed by quilters of varying skill levels. The patterns encompass a variety of quilting techniques including piecing, collage, improv, traditional and modern blocks. Their work also encourages environmental sustainability and can be completed using materials quilters would have in their existing stashes and repurposed fabrics. Ralph also has a strong understanding of the retail industry associated with quilting and has completed business plans for several quilting—based businesses including East Coast Quilt Co. in St. John's.
