Hilaria Supa Huamán has devoted more than twenty years to social and political activism in Peru. She works for environmental protection and the multicultural and multilingual identity of Peruvians. Before becoming a member of Peruâ??s Congress (2006â??11), Hilaria supported the creation of women's organizations such as the Micaela Bastidas Committee of Anta and several mothersâ?? clubs. Through the Federation of Peasant Women of Anta, she supported literacy and the use of traditional medicine. In 2005, Hilaria was one of 1,000 women from around the world nominated in the 1,000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize campaign.
