Kendel Hippolyte lives and writes in his native St. Lucia. He has published four collections of poetry, the most recent being Birthright (Peepal Tree, 1997). He has been described by The Heinemann Book of Caribbean Poetry as "perhaps the outstanding Caribbean poet of his generation." His work has also been anthologized in The Penguin Book of Caribbean Verse, Voiceprint, and Caribbean Poetry Now.
