Joseph Carl Ferencz

Joseph Carl Ferencz completed his BA and MA in psychology at the University of Guelph. He obtained a PhD in psychology from the University of Waterloo and worked for several years as a psychologist at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. Thereafter, he completed his medical training at McMaster University where he joined the Department of Psychiatry. He served as the director of the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital forensic program for seven years. In 2000, he took a position as the director of the Schizophrenia Assessment and Treatment Unit, and in 2005, he was appointed head of the Schizophrenia Service. From 2007 to 2011, he assumed the roles of assistant chief of Psychiatry, St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton, and of vice-chair of Clinical Services, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University. He currently serves as the psychiatrist-in-chief of the Mental Health and Addiction Program, as well as a staff psychiatrist in the Psychiatric Emergency Service and the Secure Forensic Unit at St. Joseph’s Healthcare.
